"One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child."
Why Should You Choose Children's Manor Montessori School?
We only hire the best teachers for our classrooms, most of whom have been with us for as many as 5-10 years. Our teachers and instructional leaders love working with children and are able to observe each child’s needs to best serve them. The role of our teachers is to guide the students, allowing each child to develop concentration, motivation, persistence, and discipline through their work. Within this framework of order, the child progresses at their own pace and rhythm while discovering the joys of learning and developing social and intellectual discipline.
The Montessori classroom is nothing like a traditional classroom. In the Montessori classroom children our encouraged to explore, feel, and touch their surroundings. All activities are presented at eye level to the child on bookcases and other displays. The Montessori environment is designed to meet the physical, cognitive, and social needs intrinsic to each child and to nurture the child to learn and thrive. In the Montessori classroom, children are free to respond to their natural drive to work and learn. The child’s inherent joy of learning is encouraged by giving him/her the opportunities to engage in meaningful activities under the guidance of the Montessori teacher.
Unlike many other schools or day care facilities, we offer a diverse range of programs, enrichment, and outreach for our students. Our Infant/Toddler program focuses on developing cognitive skills, motor skills, sensory skills, language skills, practical life skills, and social skills. The Pre-Primary, Primary, and Honors/Kindergarten Programs build on our Infant/Toddler Program and incorporate the five areas of the Montessori Method (Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies). At the Elementary Level, our programs continue to build and include Language, Mathematics, Science, and Cultural Studies. Specialty programs are integrated into the general daily schedule at least once a week and include Technology, Spanish, Music, Physical Education, Yoga, Library, Art, and Service Learning.
The Montessori Method is designed to help children with their task of inner construction as they grow from childhood to maturity. The Montessori approach succeeds because its principles are based on the natural development of the child. The inherent flexibility of the Montessori approach allows it to be adapted to the needs of the individual child, regardless of the level of ability, learning style, or social maturity.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
Montessori teachers have a jump-start to STEM education as compared to their conventional counterparts since student engagement in hands-on learning is inherent in a Montessori classroom. Children’s Manor is proud to be at the forefront of incorporating STEM principles into all of their programs. In fact, beginning in the Infant/Toddler Program, the language arts and math foundation is established through the discovery of natural laws through the manipulation of didactic materials and problem solving with peers. The Montessori materials engage the senses and ensures the internalization of concepts, not just the memorization of facts. Furthermore, the Montessori curriculum reinforces that everything is interrelated. The current STEM movement is calling for innovation, collaboration, hands-on learning, and problem solving, something Children’s Manor has and will continue to provide.
Montessori education has been linked to some of the best technology innovators, and luminaries from other disciplines, of our time. Google founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, video game pioneer Will Wright, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, not to mention Julia Child and rapper Sean Combs, were all Montessori students. It is a well-known fact that Montessori teaches kids to be self-directed, self-starters, and develops a love for learning and this love and direction can prove very successful.
